Flags for the Austrians!

Clarence Harrison - With the imminent arrival of the new Austrian foot from Warfare Miniatures, I thought it was only right to give the lads some banners to wave martially about. These are based on the designs for 1705 to 1712, but may work for a little after as changes in regulations and changes in the field were often different things.

To get things started, we have five sets...

Red Bog - 12th July 1691

I've been threatening to do an Aughrim video for the YouTube Channel for a while and finally got round to completing it. The Red Bog scenario is a regimental sized BLB game with 1:10 model to man ratio and is played in the 4PlayX format - 4 x 4 table, 8 turns .

It turned out rather well and got me fired up to continue with the Irish output for BLB, 4Play and background reading and reference...

Down in the laboratory.......

I have been working on a Fleet level version of Mad for War which slots in very well with the current rules. It is a while since I managed to make any videos so I crammed this one in before the turn of the year.

It is a walk through the mechanics as worked out using 2D ship counters before I go for the 3d model versions. I chose a section of the fleets from the famous Four Days Battle of 1666.

The War in Ireland - A trip through the archives Part 2

Warfare Miniatures - infantry in Ireland mostly from codes V01-V06

Having hungrily sucked up as much of what little collateral I could find in the early days of being interested in the period, I began to assemble my own bits and pieces and make that available. Of course, this is a continuous work in progress as new information occasionally appears or I decide to revisit certain aspects and...

The War in Ireland - a trip through the archives Part 1

Earl of Oxford's Regiment at Aughrim 1691

I have been writing about and gaming the War in Ireland for over thirty years and have accrued and published a considerable amount of collateral designed to provide gamers with the kind of info they need to get started. Despite this, I still have more stuff unpublished than published and aim to get the finger out in 2022 with some brand new and rebooted...

Stretching a euphemism to breaking point

Neither glorious nor a revolution - 1688 Invasion of England

Down to two men for our weekly game I turned to a small scenario I really enjoyed writing and playing solo. It comes from a pair of 4Play packs which I created model the Dutch invasion of England in 1688. I hesitate to use the euphemism which has now become a common descriptor for this foreign takeover. The pool of words deployed around...

Eppinger's Dragoons - Part Two

Clarence Harrison - Finished! I really got on a roll with this unit and painted twelve models (and based all three squadrons) over the weekend. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you're excited about a project.

Really pleased with how this unit turned out. I already have three stands worth of foot dragoons and a horse holder base primed and on the painting desk - hoping to have them...

Clarence Harrison - I've been wanting to do this unit ever since I got into the period - somewhere around 2006. I actually purchased the models from Wargames Foundry, but other projects took precedence (we began working on Republic to Empire) and the models sat in a box (they're still there as far as I know).

In 2010, my real love for the period was solidified when Barry and I met at Historicon...

Ark Royal 1/1200 Ancient ships range

Dekeres, Hexeres, Quinqureme

Here is the scope and detail of the range as we come close to launch. All packs contain metal bases for each ship.Sails and masts can be bought separately as many who game with galleys do not use sails on the their models and making them an accessory seemed the best way to offer the range. I will go to a pre order stage first with delivery scheduled for January 2022....

Sicilian milk run 259 BC

The game set up - 1/1200 scale, 2 x 4 table Mad for War rules

This encounter, set around 255 BC sees a Carthaginian relief fleet attempting to land supplies to support a hard-pressed army on the western tip of Sicily near Trapani. The Romans are blockading the island and the escort must penetrate the screen of Roman ships and navigate through narrow island channels to reach a bay in which other...

Capital units of the Swedish fleet head north towards Stockholm, June 1st 1676

..... I will get to play my Christmas game which this year I have decided is a version of the Battle of Öland, June 1st 1676. This will be my largest effort with 1/1200 17th century ships and my target is to included 36 models. That leaves me about four weeks to paint up 7-8 ships several of which are big 'uns.
