Wandering Around Ireland, Part V

Clarence Harrison - A conversation I had via Messenger last week...

"Are you ever going to finish blogging about your Ireland trip?"

"What? Didn't I finish it? That was a year ago..."

"Didn't you go the Boyne?"

"Son of a..."

So, yes. Roughly one year ago I took a trip to Scotland to play some games with toy soldiers and then on a boy's adventure outing to Ireland (you can find the other installments he...

The Cock of the North, Part Four

Clarence Harrison- Well, that was fun! Running a game for players who have no experience with a rule set is always tricky. You can spend a lot of time bogged down in tedious explanations of mechanics and the minutia of the charts and discover that no one remembers it all anyway, or you can just dive in. I explained that the troops mostly use d6s or d8s to resolve their actions (a concept they WERE...

The Cock of the North, Part Three

Clarence Harrison - Turns five through seven saw the action heat up as both sides began to make more aggressive moves.

Sir Arthur attempts to dazzle his opponent with a double order deployment in hopes of confusing his foe...

Unfazed, General Hamilton responds by trying to blind his opponent...

In the center of the field, Captain Magill's Dragoons crash into the second squadron of Tyrconnel's Horse....

The War of Three Kings QRS

Clarence Harrison - We opted out of printing a QRS this time, but fear not you can have them absolutely free! Once you get a handle on the game, most of the rules you'll need are right here...

OMG! IT'S SIX PAGES LONG!

We got that with Republic to Empire and it somehow translated into causing some people anxiety. Let me head this off at the pass and point out YOU DON'T NEED...

A bad day to get man flu... BLB 3 hits the streets

this is a productive evening at the Warfare Office.... ah, a job well done - all in the out tray for this week

Yup, I blame the Italians. I felt the tickle in a meeting in Milan on Tuesday morning and caught a look from my colleague - you ok?

From chaos comes order - Mrs H hard at work on the pre orders - at this rate there will be none left!

By Tuesday night back in Brum I knew I was for it. The...

The Cock of the North, Part Two

Clarence Harrison- For the initial deployment, I placed the Foot of the Protestant Association in the village of Dromore, and left it up to the players to deploy their Horse and Dragoons as they saw fit. With Hamilton not yet on the field, Chris played Colonel Dominic Sheldon who had command of Tyrconnel's three squadrons of Horse, with Jim in command of Sir Neil O'Neill's two squadrons of...

The Cock of the North, Part One

Clarence Harrison- I had the opportunity to run a pre-release game of Beneath the Lily Banners/The War of Three Kings for some friends last weekend. They hadn't played any of the previous versions and were unfamiliar with the period, though eager to give it a try - and I was eager to see what they thought. When trying to decide on exactly what game to run, I turned to the pile of scenarios we have...

The War of Three Kings - It's alive!

Yup, it now actually exists beyond a computer screen. These pictures came from the printer in Cambridge today. Storm Emma permitting, it will be in Scotland by the back end of next week and pre orders will go out from the 10th - 13th.

We have had a huge response to getting them all out will involve all of the little Hilton Elves being very busy.

A glass of fizz tonight and onwards!

Limbers for Field Guns

Clarence Harrison - Right, here's a proper limber this time - none of that dodgy strapping a gun to the back of the poor horse...

Obviously a field gun would be pulled by more than two horses, but in the same spirit that calls 18 men a battalion, I wanted to keep the footprint of the limber to a minimum for my usual 4x6' table. As before, the gun is not attached and was lifted from one of my field...

Limbers for Light Guns

Clarence Harrison - With everything else going on around here. I've got a pre-release BLB3 game planned for some friends in early March and I'm scrambling to gather together stuff I need for the scenario. It's stuff I've wanted anyway (like the unit of All Pike painted earlier this month), but the desire to put on a good show is a great motivator to get the lead out!

The scenario has reserve units...
