See you at Crisis 2017! - Warfare discount offer for the show

Our intense GNW struggle at Crisis in 2014 or 2015

Toggy, Gwen and I look forward to our wonderful long weekend in Antwerp! This year we hear that a very large game featuring thousands (yes that is no exaggeration) of Warfare models will have a prominent place at the show. Nice publicity!

Solidifying the Ghost Army Part 7: Wounded Sentinels

The wounded sentinels in the raw state

The sentinels completed

Although the Ghost Army force has only four units each with two characters attached I added two extra demi-units in order to make the scenario work. The first of these are three sentinels, each supposed to be wounded and therefore rated as Drilled in the scenario.

Warfare GNW R13 Russian pikemen marching

R13 is the pike code complimentary to R12 (Musketeers) and R14 (Command).  I am super happy about how this code turned out too. Again it is based on two body dollies with five head variants atop.

The pistol tucked in behind the belly box is a nice touch on all figures.

Some (but very few) customers have been a little unhappy about the 'solid' hands for pikemen and officers in the Russian range. We...

Discount on Warfare Miniatures for Partizan pre orders

WLOA58 & 60 Mounted dragoons

In order to maintain my blood pressure at an adequate level I won't be trading with Warfare Miniatures at Partizan. Running a demo and a trade stand with two people is less than relaxing.

I am happy though to offer 10% discount on any items ordered in advance. Just pop me an email at wordtwister@hotmail.co.uk before Friday 18th letting me...

Warfare Miniatures GNW Russian Artillerists released

Finally I got round to painting the first two codes for the Russian Artillery. All three codes are available but I haven't managed to paint code RA3 (Gunners firing) yet.

The codes are in the shop right now and if anyone wants code RA3 just send a mail to wordtwister@hotmail.co.uk and I can add them to any order.

They painted up very well and I am delighted we've finally got these to market.

Warfare GNW R12 Russian musketeers marching

A close in look at this code which is already proving pretty popular. As per usual we have 5 variants based on two body dollies and five different heads.

The arm comes in two options - bayonet fix and bayonet removed.

I chose to paint these in all green uniforms and I will use them for the Preobrazhenskoi Guards. Back to the old arguments - who is right and who is wrong, regarding uniform colours...

Solidifying the Ghost Army Part 5 - How far can you get in a week?

A selection of the Ghost Army in the field

Something I am frequently asked is "how do you manage to be so productive?". The answer is quite simple. I don't have any spare time.

Lukas Strom takes an aimed shot

My day job keeps me away from home about 180 days per year on average. I long ago abandoned my portable painting kit which included about two dozen little Vallejo bottles carried around with my...

Solidifying the Ghost Army 4 - Weathering the Veterans

Three steps: Painted, Washed down, Weathered - bases unfinished

The look I wanted to get with these models was a faded, dirty, washed out effect. They have been in the field for over two years without proper resupply from home. If a parade ground look ever existed in the early 18th century which I doubt, these chaps are as far away from that as is possible. For those interested, a tip I would offer...

Solidifying the Ghost Army Part 3 Åke Öberg’s Vikingar

Åke Öberg’s Vikingar - the raw material - two conversions and three 're-equipped' models
The finished unit -Åke Öberg’s Vikingar

The unit is Veteran under Donnybrook classification and equipped with heavy weapons, in this case battle axes. They are known in my collection as Sergeant Åke Öberg’s Vikingar. His little command are formidable men from the northern provinces of Sweden. Almost inured to...

Solidifying the Ghost Army Part 2 - Inspiration for characterization

Donnybrook has become pretty widely used since its release (despite CH painting himself into the cover!).

Donnybrook is ideally suited to characterisation.  Clarence and I had much fun naming the rather ridiculous characters which pepper the pages of the rule book. A few of our friends appear there in very thin disguise.

The Ghost Army immediately started to lend itself to this characterisation...

Solidifying the Ghost Army Part 1 - The BIG idea

A preview of four of the conversions for the Ghost Army

On a recent flight back from New York I hit the creative wall. I intended to use the journey to write something new but found myself simply staring at the screen.. it had been a hard week at the office.
I resorted to trawling through my files of previously written pieces and eventually I came across an almost finished scenario for Donnybrook...
