The League of Augsburg
Lucky connections or coincidence?
Not only did I get to sail across the very spots that Spragge, De Ruyter et al manouevred and battled with their fleets in the 17th century, I managed to make several other tangible connections with my periods of interest during the annual sojourn to Antwerp.
Spanish Gate at Breda Castle.. some irony in the title - the Spaniards left a water gap in their defences |

PRE-ORDER FOR CRISIS - Brexit postponed to make it easy for me to travel?
Thanks to whoever may have made it easy to visit CRISIS which was up until October 28th POST Brexit. It now appears to be PRE Brexit. Sniffer dogs and detection robots will therefore possibly not be crawling inside my boxes of painted miniatures on the boat across to Ijmuiden!
For any customers who wish to take advantage of a CRISIS 2019 Pre- order, just let me know what you want and I'll get it...
Meet the Fleets!
It was with interest, pleasure and gamer's curiosity that I opened the mails from participating blog members concerning the construction of their fleets for the occasional games which will be run and retold here.

Release of Danish battalion packs
Regiment Prinds Georg or Jorgen
Regiment Jyske or Jutland
Our Danish figures have proved quietly popular. Like the Danes themselves, they have gotten on with it without too much fuss. For wargamers with a practical approach the Danish army during the period 1675-1720 is a great choice. It was almost continuously at war. It can fight in theatres from Ireland Hungary. It can take the field for its...
Wargames Illustrated primer on With Talon and Claw
This is another well produced video from WI walking through the new book in some detail. I didn't even know it existed till I found it by accident on YouTube!
With Talon and Claw in depth look from WI
WI is also running a couple of articles soon. One is a battle report from a game I ran for Dan Faulconbridge and Mark Shearwood (Hi Mark!). The second is a scenario for gaming the Battle of...
Wargames Illustrated walk through of With Talon and Claw game
Here is a link to a video I recorded with Dan behind the camera a couple of weeks back. Mark Shearwood played Dan in the game which will be featured in Wargames Illustrated in a forthcoming issue.

English: From left: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 5th galley-frigate |
I mentioned previously that it would be fun to get some small fleets together chosen/owned by blog visitors and that I would where possible, fight out randomly generated actions and feed back the results. If lots of people participate then the game load may get onerous and your fleet may not see action too often but, we can only...
Media work
Been busy talking to some media moguls in the hobby over the last couple of weeks. I did a podcast interview for Henry Hyde's Battlechat Live 32 which seemed to fly by but actually lasted two hours. Well, Henry and I are never short of a word or dozen and the experience was candid and interesting. He has a nice interviewing style which opens the interviewee up before they know it. Henry is a...
