various pikemen - Sedgemoor? Derry? Boston? |
It took a while but I finally got the lot painted and Toggy did some too! This post is just to illustrate the potential of these beautiful models.

The Guns of August 2018, Sunday
Whew! Third game went totally different from the previous two. Though the Jacobites did manage to get all of their plunder across the ford (in eleven turns.. don't tell Dannie), they were slaughtered to a man save several units of horse who retreated in good order from the field.

Guns of August 2018, Saturday
Real quick as I am beat.. two great games Saturday..
Left to right, Dannie Fogleman, Joe Brecher, Richard Jaekel, and Dick Goettel.. ALL of the these guys played in one of Barry and my sessions of the Pennyburnat Historicon. Some of them came from quite a ways, just to play BLB. I was stressed because in my haste Saturday morning I left the house without my QRS... THREE of them brought their own...

GNW play test at Partizan
Playing length ways on an 8 x 6 table offers the Swedes space to get moving and depth to the defending Russians |
Toggy and I cobbled together our Partizan game literally at the last minute for a variety of reasons. Needless to say, it looked fine and served and important purpose - that being; to showcase some of mechanisms written for inclusion in our War of Three KingsGNW/Eastern wars supplement...
The Guns of August 2018
It's been quiet around here, but I've not been idle - just haven't had the time to do any proper posts. My games are officially scheduled for the Guns of August show at the Virginia War Museum in Newport News, VA. On Saturday (August 25th) I'll be running games of Beneath the Lily Banners at 10am and 2pm and again on Sunday (August 26th) at 10am. My table is in the main hall, across from the M-5...
With this kind of view you are doing WHAT?

Mrs H knows how to pick 'em - I get to look at this all day whilst thinking abut toy soldiers |
Well that's me. Travel does broaden the mind but I have things to do you see. I've got this BLB3 supplement to finish for the Great Northern War and the sun does not really agree with my Caledonian complexion anyway.
With a view like the above to inspire me (not of Landsknechts and Condotierre) but of Turks...
What you've been waiting for - Ottomans!
It is with both great pleasure and excitement that the LoA Blog previews our first six codes of Ottomans.
Based around the Janissary corps circa 1680-1720 the packs represent:
1. Janissary full dress Advancing
2. Janissary full dress Standing
3. Janissary campaign dress firing line
4. Janissary campaign dress loading
5. Janissary Command standing
6. Janissary Command advancing
These sculpts should be...
Exploring the possibilities - New Military civilians
The possibilities with these figures are enormous. With fifteen marching /advancing musketeers in three sets of five, each with four arm variants we offer 60 variants on the musketeers.
With the open handed models depending on the weapons used - scythes, short pikes, pole-arms, long pikes etc the options are there for a further 60 variants.
These are the first of a series of 'real' people in 'real'...

In flight entertainment
ironic backdrop location to work on the GNW |
Having managed to clock up 22,000 miles in the last 10 days I am afraid my work on the BLB GNW supplement may include some errors. These are only partly due to the time zone confusion but also my...
Why wouldn't they?

We sent the Huguenots to Jamaica during our Battle for Britain campaign set in 1693 (Colin Napier's brigade) |
It seems to be accepted wisdom that Huguenot regiments in the service of England and Holland did not carry pikes during the period 1688 - 1697.
Before I continue, apart from logic, I have no additional evidence to offer interested parties regarding what is stated in this piece.

What you can do with the new Swedish cavalry
I'll let the pictures do the talking in this post. I have now had a bit of a chance to play around with the new Swedish cavalry. Although I have not painted all 20 different models, nor put the various arms in the different positions, I did manage to get a bit of variety going.
I really believe these will become the benchmark Swedish cavalry for the Great Northern War. I'll do another couple of...
