The League of Augsburg

Story of a show game 2 - The scenario

The Panzer Division will watch from the sidelines whilst the infantry slug it out

The scenario for CRISIS 2018 is called Brahms & Liszt. It is set in 1713 on the south-eastern frontier or, north-western if you are Turkish! This is twenty years after our previous show effort of 2018 at TACTICA which also involved Imperial forces racing to over run the French in the German Grand National 1693.

Story of a show-game 1 - the trade off

LoA North American Chapter - Clarence did ALL the work for this one at Historicon 2016

Being a Team of two, you have to make decisions which are inevitably a compromise. I have captained some productive groups since starting on the Event Trail around 1992. Sometimes we were two, occasionally three, many times and for several years, I flew solo.

Don't be 'leg-ist' please!

I don't envy larger groups...

Busy painting Ottomans

OT06 Ottoman Command standing painted by Toggy

Some choices are binary - spend time painting on spend time blogging about the things you might paint!

OT01 Janissaries in full dress advancing

So, it's been a wee bit quiet here for a few days but the brushes of Augsburg have not been idle. Both Toggy and I, between other parts of the range, have been busy painting Ottomans for the forthcoming CRISIS...

The work of Dino Todaro

Swedish Regiment Vasterbotten - the basing really sets off the unit superbly

Wargaming takes some unusual turns. When we visited Tuscany on holiday I arranged to meet an Italian gamer, collector and painter with whom I had corresponded for a couple of years. When we met in his beautiful home town of Lucca we really hit it off.

Since then we have met...

Ottomans on their way

Janissaries on campaign - two thirds of a unit minus Command

They arrived at 1600 and are on their way to all the pre order customers tomorrow!

Which one wasn't speed painted? 2 x 45 minutes, 1 x 90 minutes

Here is a taste of what is coming your way in the post. Codes OT001 - OT004 nearly sold out in the first batch so we are barely hanging on with those till we get reinforcements.

A base of...

Come on, more? Really? Warfare Minis Guest Gallery 5

I've managed to get to a fifth in the series of Warfare painted miniatures from the brushes of excellent painters whilst maintaining the quality!

Here we have some super, stylish Saxons from the very prolific brush of Roger Castle. Roger can be found evangelising about the GNW on several fora at the moment. His work output is high and he has done a wonderful job on his Warfare minis.

Gathering the Ottomans

A quick update shot of some Ottoman Janissaries in campaign dress - having photographed these for the website I'll be busting them off these little bases and getting them mounted up properly for CRISIS. Anyway, you'll get the idea.

We should have some solid news on the production volumes of these and the other codes from the first six sets very soon.

We hope also to be able to preview the Segban and...

Militia - all painted

various pikemen - Sedgemoor? Derry? Boston?

It took a while but I finally got the lot painted and Toggy did some too! This post is just to illustrate the potential of these beautiful models.

Armed wth scythes, polearms and short pikes - Raparees? Huguenots? Town mob?

I really enjoyed painting them - so easy.

The musketmen - each has 4 arm variants so multiply the horde by four and there is still no...

On the mat - some shots of the toys

I quickly threw together some old bits and pieces from the various collections to test out the mat. I am very pleased with the way it has come out. I think it is fine here in our little Lace Wars corner to have a little heavy metal on show (I do still have a fair bit of it!).

So, the shots...

The Guns of August 2018, Sunday

Whew! Third game went totally different from the previous two. Though the Jacobites did manage to get all of their plunder across the ford (in eleven turns.. don't tell Dannie), they were slaughtered to a man save several units of horse who retreated in good order from the field.

Mike 'Fat Bastard' MacNeill captained the Williamite assault while the dynamic duo father-son team of Rob and Justin...

Guns of August 2018, Saturday

Real quick as I am beat.. two great games Saturday..

Left to right, Dannie Fogleman, Joe Brecher, Richard Jaekel, and Dick Goettel.. ALL of the these guys played in one of Barry and my sessions of the Pennyburnat Historicon. Some of them came from quite a ways, just to play BLB. I was stressed because in my haste Saturday morning I left the house without my QRS... THREE of them brought their own...
