Heidelberg Castle - photo walk through

The large tower on the right (Dicker Turm) was mined by Louis XIV's army in 1693

It was my good fortune to find myself in Heidelberg for a couple of days and to explore its Thirty Years War and War of the Palatinate history.

Many of the defensive works were repeatedly reconstructed after sieges during the TYW and Nine Years War

The view from the castle down into the town and the Alte Bruecke over the...

Warfare's Old and New Swedish Cavalry - All explained!

SC01 New troopers supplied with a random selection from 5 arm variants

Several customers and Blog followers have inquired whether the new Swedish cavalry models are compatible with the very popular trooper we have been selling for the last 30 months.

Best way to start this piece is to show a comparison between them. In the above photo the two troopers on the left are from the original sculpt/model....

Assassin's Creed - no really!

The Fortress of Monteriggioni as seen from the south west

It is fair to say that Tuscany is full of history. It is also fair to say that I don't get much time for life- consuming, first-person role play or platform games for the XBox, PS4 or 5 or 6 or whatever is the current iteration.

The aspect facing approaching Florentine troops - north facing gate
So with my mind focused on the Via Francigena...

With this kind of view you are doing WHAT?

Mrs H knows how to pick 'em - I get to look at this all day whilst thinking abut toy soldiers

Well that's me. Travel does broaden the mind but I have things to do you see. I've got this BLB3 supplement to finish for the Great Northern War and the sun does not really agree with my Caledonian complexion anyway.

With a view like the above to inspire me (not of Landsknechts and Condotierre) but of Turks...

Megorsky: a review of the Russian Army in the GNW - An essential!

This book is an essential asset for anyone interested in the Great Northern War. I believe it will become the benchmark  hobby book for the Petrine Army and although it does not mention figure gaming specifically, it focuses on detail and content continually sought by gamers.

Comparing it with publications of the past, the gulf between it and assumption, conjecture and the rehash of secondary or...

Kurpfalz Feldherren do the '45 at Tactica

Some Summer pictures of a winter time game from Germany.

Awa' in the Heilands - Speed Bonnie Boat and all that stuff..

Those very talented chaps - Jurgen, Sven, Stefan and Mirko aka the Kurpfalz Feldherren have done it again with this wonderful '45 Rebellion Donnybrook game at Tactica.
This looks suitably grim and Scots
Their table was beautiful and contained four forces - French, Highlanders,...

The big move

Will that shut?

Toggy and I set off on our trek at 1030, June 23.

Mission: Move Warfare Miniatures production lock, stock and barrel 141 miles from Middlesbrough to Nottingham. First we needed to do the 192 miles from home to Middlesbrough.

What? ALL of those? In the cage? You must be having a giraffe mate!

That journey was very productive as we got to grips with a new phase in Warfare's development....

Crossing the Shannon - The Guns of August 2018

Clarence Harrison - My work schedule has been crazy recently and I realized I was never going to be able to finish the Limerick project I had planned for The Guns of August (maybe Historicon 2019). Rather than give up on the idea of attending, I set out to find a different scenario to run.

While sorting through scenarios, I stumbled on the map for 'Crossing the Shannon'. This game appeared in the...
